Wells is a unique seaside resort having a harbour that is around one mile inland from the beach. There is a hard surfaced walkway out to the beach and lifeboat station from the harbour. At times the cloud formations over Wells are dramatic and unusual. During winter months when the wind is from the north the clouds form over the north sea from the Wash and pile in over the land. Tourists travel miles from central and northern England just for that walk out from the harbour where weary travellers will find a good cafe and all the services. Wells-Next-the-Sea is also famous for the many beach huts on support piles located out on the bar.
