Stock Photo Description:
A row of beach huts at Brightlingsea, Essex, England, with the beach in the foreground. Beach huts, in Britain, are normally privately owned, rent for the land being payable to the local Council. Cooking is usually by bottled gas but electric lighting is often wired in. The huts are one-room structures, for daytime use and overnighting is usually banned. The owners decorate them, often in bright colours, but the sun and salt spray cause rapid deterioration . Photographed 1 July 2003.
