Stock Photo Description:
"The Lowry", named for the painter L.S. Lowry, houses three theatres, art galleries, restaurants and bars and occupies a key position, overlooking the redesigned docks of the Manchester Ship Canal, which allowed ocean-going ships to reach the centre of Manchester, 35 miles from the sea. The facade is designed to look like the bridge of a ship and is sheltered by a trough-shaped canopy. Photographed June 2005.
