The tower, placed at the north east corner of the Lowry Centre, houses a shop at ground level and a call centre in the upper levels, "The Lowry", named for the painter L.S. Lowry, houses three theatres, art galleries, restaurants and bars and occupies a key position, overlooking the redesigned docks of the Manchester Ship Canal, which allowed ocean-going ships to reach the centre of Manchester, 35 miles from the sea.
