Stock Photo Description:
"The Lowry", named for the painter L.S. Lowry, houses three theatres, art galleries, restaurants and bars and occupies a key position, overlooking the redesigned docks of the Manchester Ship Canal, which allowed ocean-going ships to reach the centre of Manchester, 35 miles from the sea. The canopy serves little practical purpose except to bathe the facade of the building with light. Photographed June 2005.
