Stock Photo Description:
The Liver building was built in 1911, of reinforced concrete, the first of its type, for the Royal Liver Friendly Society. It features immense clock faces, the largest in Britain, so that shipping on the River Mersey can read the time. The twin towers carry statues of the Liver Birds, Liverpool’s mascots, which are cormorants. The building faces the Pier Head, where ferries leave for Birkenhead, just across the river, and the Isle of Man, which lies in the middle of the Irish Sea.
