For 25 years, in honour of its maritime tradition, Liverpool has organised the annual Mersey River Festival. It features a parade of tall ships, displays, demonstrations, street entertainers, music and many other things associated with the River Mersey.The William & Kate Johnston was built in 1923, at Cowes, Isle of Wight, as a lifeboat. She was sold out of service in 1950 and is, at present, a sail training ship.
