Description: The Italian city of Florence (Firenze) is the capital of Tuscany and a major centre for business and tourism. The Piazza della Signoria contains the Palazzo Vecchio (literally “Old Palace”) and the Loggia della Signoria (also called the Loggia dei Lanzi). The loggia and the piazza are a magnificent showcase for sculpture. This bronze symbolises the victory of the weak over a strong oppressor. It was, originally, gilded and faint traces of the gilding can still be seen on the sword. Photographed 16th October 2005.
